How to apply peel-and-stick wax seals

Peel-and-stick wax seals are the "modern cheat code" for a classic look without the mess.

Applying wax seals to envelopes, stationery, wedding invitations and gift packaging has never been easier. Pre-made wax seals paired with high-bond double-sided adhesive circles let you achieve an authentic, hand-stamped look with speed, precision and zero mess — no melting wax, no flame, no clean-up.

Here's how to get a perfect result every time.

What you'll need

  • Your pre-made wax seals
  • A roll of double-sided adhesive circles
  • The envelope, card, ribbon or packaging you're sealing
  • A flat, hard surface to work on

Step 1 — Prep the surface

Remove a single double-sided adhesive circle from the roll and place it exactly where you want your seal to sit.

Press the sticky side firmly onto the paper or ribbon so you have a flat, secure base before you peel anything else.

Step 2 — Reveal the adhesive

Peel off the top protective layer (the backing paper) of the label. This reveals the second sticky side — a clean, clear and very tacky circle, ready for the wax.

Step 3 — Set the seal

  • Align: hover your wax seal directly over the adhesive circle.
  • Lower: bring it down slowly, aiming for the dead centre.
  • Press: apply firm thumb pressure for 3–5 seconds for a permanent bond.

Tips for the best finish

  • Work flat: always place the paper or fabric ribbon flat on a hard surface while you apply the seal, for the best adhesion.
  • Posting envelopes: self-adhesive wax seals are strong, flexible and fully suitable for the post when placed on outer envelopes.
  • Ribbon and twine: when securing ribbon or twine under a seal, stick the adhesive circle directly across the ribbon onto the paper for double security.
